The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), launched an innovative brain injury awareness campaign for elementary schools. Targeting K–5 students, the initiative needed to make serious topics like sports safety, water safety, and concussion prevention both approachable and memorable.
To bring this vision to life, BIAA partnered with Ratkaj Designs, resulting in the Brain Health for Kids Campaign—a playful, research-backed program centered around the Brain Superhero, a bespectacled, cape-wearing brain character. This fun mascot helps children see brain safety as empowering, turning complex health messages into engaging, age-appropriate content.
The design balances professionalism with playfulness using clean typography, warm handwritten accents, and bright, inviting colors. Campaign materials included animated videos, coloring sheets, posters, and activity guides for kids, plus practical tools for parents and educators like fact sheets, newsletter templates, and presentations.
Rooted in Social Cognitive Theory and backed by leading medical guidelines, the campaign blends creativity with scientific credibility. Pilot programs in Michigan and Florida included pre- and post-assessments to measure effectiveness and guide future expansion.
Early results show strong engagement from students, parents, and educators. The message—"My brain is my superpower"—is catching on, making brain health fun, relatable, and lasting. This campaign proves how strategic design and storytelling can turn vital health education into a movement for lasting change.
