Description

Things To Make And Do, together with Verveeld & Verward, developed 'Weather You Win or Not', a game about climate and Rotterdam’s resilience, commissioned by Rotterdams WeerWoord. It’s a playful card game about something that affects us all: our changing climate. In this game, you’ll encounter all sorts of situations: from withered neighbours to vanished bakers, from wet socks every day to flamingos in your bed, from streets that smell like fish to pure Rotterdam resilience. Because the climate is changing — and the city is changing with it. Heavier downpours, longer heatwaves. Our words are expressed through our actions: more water and more green. This game makes a serious issue easy to talk about. Through five themes (heat, precipitation, flooding, drought, and biodiversity), various scenarios are presented. Your challenge is to rank them in order of impact. As you play, you’ll discover what climate change means for the city — and for you. And thanks to the Rotterdam Score (determined by 100 residents of Rotterdam) you can immediately see how your estimate compares to that of the average Rotterdammer. How big do you think the impact is on your life? And what does the rest of the city think? The game lets you experience it firsthand. For the alternative game mode 'Back and Forth', conversation cards are included. Based on Dreaming, Thinking, or Doing, the situations are linked to a concrete task or question. This makes the game a practical tool for deeper exploration and discussion in teams, community centres, or classrooms. This game isn’t about winning, but about insight, conversation, and ideas. Talk together about climate change in Rotterdam and discover what you — individually or collectively — can do to make a difference. Card by card, we make the city of Rotterdam more resilient!
