UI/UX Designer, Digital Product Designer, and Webflow Developer Dmitrii Lagunov’s personal design philosophy is to create with purpose. “Design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about solving problems and enhancing how people interact with the world,” he says. “I believe in making meaningful contributions through my work and ensuring that it serves a purpose beyond just looking good.”
Lagunov’s Russian roots also had a significant influence on his design approach. “Growing up, I was exposed to a mix of modern and traditional aesthetics,” he says. “This pushed me to think creatively and find a balance between innovative and functional design. The cultural richness and diversity of my home have also always inspired me to create designs that are beautiful and tell a story.”
As a child, Lagunov was fascinated by art and technology and dreamt of becoming a visual artist or computer programmer until he discovered that he could merge both worlds with a career in design. “I discovered my love for design when I saw how people interacted with technology and the way the design can improve someone’s experience with a product. That sparked something in me, and I realized that design was the field I wanted to pursue.”

To create his deliberate and purpose-driven designs, Lagunov starts by fully understanding the client’s goals and target audience. “I start with research, gathering as much information as possible to ensure that I’m solving the right problem,” he says. “Next comes brainstorming and ideation, where I explore different concepts and sketch out rough ideas. Throughout the process, I continuously test, gather feedback, and repeat. It’s an evolving workflow where I fine-tune the details until the final product is not only visually appealing but also functional and practical.”
He also believes that creativity should serve the strategic aims of each project, striking a smart harmony between aesthetics and function. “To balance the two, I start by ensuring that I have a strong understanding of the brand’s message, audience, and objectives,” he says. “From there, I let the creativity flow within those guidelines. This way, my designs are imaginative and aligned with the project’s goals.”
Lagunov deals with the inevitable burnout and stress that comes with the job through a combination of organization and self-care. “I use tools like project management software to keep track of deadlines and priorities, but I also make sure to take breaks and manage my time effectively,” he says. “Setting clear boundaries and realistic client expectations is critical to maintaining a healthy balance. When I feel overwhelmed, I step back, reassess my workload, and sometimes delegate tasks to sustain my energy and creativity.”
He also takes ample time to destress and treat himself to some of his guilty pleasures. “I’ll admit that I have a soft spot for binge-watching cooking shows and indulging in late-night snacks like potato chips and nuts,” he says. “It’s my way of unwinding after a long day of designing.”
