Design Team

Mayo Clinic publishes a quarterly print magazine featuring the accomplishments of its alumni. Alumni is distributed to more than 36,000 physicians and scientists across 83 countries and 50 states. Leveraging Mayo Clinic’s iconic brand and the inspiring stories of its physicians, this issue centers on incorporating the arts and humanities into medical care, exploring how these important topics add to the well-being and ongoing work at Mayo Clinic. 

To set the tone for this issue, McGuffin commissioned a fine artist (Alicia Godwin) to create an original piece of artwork. Her artwork brings the idea of connection, transparency, and community to life in a beautiful, tactile way. Using watercolor paper and loose watercolor texture as a base, the strings allude to the multifaceted approach of care at Mayo Clinic, tying together color, shape, and layering, and speaking to the idea of humanities as a whole. 

The issue then moves on to feature environmental portraits of exceptional physicians and researchers and how their work in the humanities improves their caregiving. Alicia Godwin’s artwork continues to weave through the pages, to further show the connection of art and medicine.

The magazine is an oversized 12.5"x9". Printed with vibrant UV inks on uncoated Accent Opaque stock and perfect bound, the finished piece has a sophisticated look and feel that complements the Mayo brand.
